There are a more books on karate than I care to think about.  There are a number that I would recommend.

For general Shotokan Karate for Kyu grade students, you can not go wrong with M Nakayama’s Best Karate Series 1 - 11
Or M Nakayama’s  Dynamic Karate

For the advanced student of karate I would recommend four books by Iain Abernethy

Bunkai Jutsu
Arm-locks for all styles
Throws for strikers
Karate’s grappling methods
General sport or coaching literature can be purchased from www.1st4sport.com I will keep my recommendations short as I have found this site to be invaluable.  The site has over 400 of the best PE guides, training videos, fitness tools, sports related software and more...

Coaching Sessions (a guide to planning and goal-setting)
How to Coach Sports Safely (part of their coaching essentials it covers risk assessment, first aid
                                             provision and reporting injuries etc.)
How to Coach Children in Sport (another of their coaching essentials covering talent development,
physical development, the mind of a child, practical coaching,
                                                   legal and ethical responsibilities etc.)
Warming Up and Cooling Down (covers essential theory, and contains practical ideas using simple
                                                   equipment)
Coaching Practice (covers the coaching context, coaching responsibilities and the coaching process)
Sport Psychology A Student’s Handbook (covers personality and sport, attitudes to sport,
aggression in sport, motivation and skill acquisition etc.)
Code of Practice for Sports Coaches (Poster covering rights, relationships, responsibilities-personal
                                                          standards and responsibilities-professional standards)

My last publication is ‘What To Do If You’re Worried A Child Is Being Abused/31815 and can be obtained from www.doh.gov.uk/safeguardingchildren/index.htm
